Project:

McKinnon Building Gymnasium, dance studio, and swimming pool.

Location:

Victoria, B.C.

University of Victoria

Site Description:

The McKinnon Building houses the university’s former campus gymnasium, dance studio, and swimming pool. The university has built a new gym facility in recent years, so the older gym and facilities required a lighting upgrade.

Consulting Services:

The consulting services provided were a lighting review and a redesign of lighting in the building. During the lighting upgrade, the consultant provided project management and worked with the electrical contractor to bring the lighting upgrade to a successful conclusion.

Lighting Upgrade:

The high bay fixtures in the gymnasium, dance studio, and swimming pool were replaced with new LED high bay luminaires. Each space required a reconfiguration of luminaires to provide proper lighting distribution. Occupancy sensors were added to reduce energy use when the spaces were not occupied. A further upgrade was made to the Douglas lighting control system to provide dimming and switching in a central location for large spaces. New exit signs were also added to complete the lighting upgrade.
